Spirit Flyer Recumbents grew out of my love of this style of bike riding that I discovered over 10 years ago. I discovered a heads up view of the world around me and I discovered a body position that feels good when riding. After building these bikes for myself and family, I realized that I could bring that same great experience to others as well.

As you can see by the picture, building custom recumbent bikes is just one of the ways that I make people's hearts sing. My wife and I entertain at various functions with our musical duo called Singin-n-Swingin. We provide fun dancing and singing music in various old time styles, big band, swing, western swing, old movie classics, polka, waltz, and early rock and roll. Judy plays drums and sings and I play accordion and sing. We project the words up on a large screen so that people can sing along with us. In addition to the creative outlet of making beautiful bikes, I enjoy creating custom leather items for their beauty and utility. I've been working with leather since I was a teenager, beginning with 4-H projects. I'm continually amazed at the variety of beautiful art that can be made with the medium of leather. I'm pushing to learn more advanced techniques with new projects. I started the powder coating in order to put better finishes on my bikes. It has grown into doing custom projects for others. . . car parts, tractor parts, refurbishing bike frames.

Some are curious about our name, Spirit Flyer. It comes from a children's book series "The Spirit Flyer Series" by John Bibee published by InterVarsity Press. The first book starts "Once there was a magic bicycle that found a boy." The story is an allegory of how the Holy Spirit can guide us in life if we choose to follow. We desire to listen to and follow the Holy Spirit, using the gifts and talents he has given us to honor him and bring joy to others.
