For me, the recumbent bike riding experience is about making your heart sing and your face smile. I know that it's increased my enjoyment level tremendously and I want others to have that same experience.
The smile and song are the result of the unique riding position which gives you an extraordinary view on your journey and amazing comfort in the process. The upright seating position lets you view the road ahead, the scenery to the sides and even the birds above. The fully supportive seat allows many enjoyable hours without discomfort. The wrists, hands and shoulders don’t get sore or numb since no weight is resting on them. The neck doesn’t get stiff because it’s held in a normal upright position. Are they difficult to ride? The riding experience is different, but not difficult compared to a conventional bicycle. Many first time recumbent riders feel shaky but can ride almost immediately. Your body usually adapts after twenty to forty miles and you feel more relaxed and confident. Slow tight turns and steep hills require the most practice. How are they on hills? Most people find that their body must adjust and some time is needed to be able to climb hills as well as on a conventional bicycle since you use slightly different muscles. Because you cannot stand up on the pedals, it is very important to have low enough gearing for the type of riding that you do. |
